Golfers who were in the swing to raise money for charity have benefited five organisations.
The Burry Port Charity Fund held their sixth annual charity golf day to raise money for community-based groups.​
The event, which was held in August at the Ashburnham Golf Club, attracted 27 teams and raised almost £3,000 for the cause.
The beneficiaries this year were Burry Port AFC Juniors, Burry Port RFC Juniors, Ashburnham Golf Club Juniors, Burry Port Town Band and the Burry Port Male Voice Choir.
TAD Builders were presented with the Christian Ford Memorial Trophy.
Charity organiser Peter Lawlor said: "This year's benefactors were selected by virtue of the current economic situation and the enforced council cutbacks. They each received cheques up to the value of £500."
He said the money was to help people who donate their spare time freely for the benefit of others and, though not specifically to introduce more junior members, this was a consideration.
Mr Lawlor said: "The RFC, AFC and Ash were to use the money to introduce the next generation of young members and to help with travelling costs where needed.
"The town band suggested that they would look to purchase instruments specifically for junior members.
"The choir are celebrating 50 years and would like to use it to assist with publicity and support."
The Burry Port Charity Fund has been raising cash for various good causes since 2008.
Over the years, it has helped tee up around £12,000 for organisations in the area.

Events at 'The Ash'

Forthcoming events at The Ashburnham Golf Club in Pembrey include the following –

Race Night on Friday, November 11, first race at 7.30pm. Tickets (£3) available at the bar. Proceeds to the Ladies’ Centenary Fund.

The series of ‘Themed’ dining evenings continues, following the success of the Mediterranean and Asian/Oriental evenings. On Friday November 18, British Isles Menu; Friday December 9, French menu.

Junior golfers at Ashburnham enjoyed a busy week of events during the school half term.
Luckily, the course seemed to miss most of the poor weather and the juniors took full advantage to enjoy a full week of action.
The busy week was rounded off in great style when boys and girls from across Dyfed took part in the inaugural County Boys versus County Girls competition.
A powerful visiting team from Kent, Prince's & Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club, Sandwich, were too strong for a young and developing Ash team and recorded a 2.5-0.5 away win.
Ben Thomas and Dan Brice combined to claim a half point for Ashburnham.
The Ashburnham junior team was Jordan Davies, Aled Greville, Ben Thomas, Daniel Brice, Josh Morris and Osian Bowen.
Autumn Trophy results: 1st Dylan Stimson (47pts); 2nd Jack Holland (40pts, back 9); 3rd Jordan Davies (40pts).
Red Tee competition (15 holes): 1st Ryan Owens (34pts); 2nd Ellis Thomas (30pts); 3rd Joe Francis (28pts, back 9).
Juniors & Seniors Texas Scramble (15 holes): 1st Norman Edwards, Rhys Morgan, Morgan Hand; 2nd Ken Gray, Dylan Stimson, Ellis Thomas; 3rd Gary Williams, Ben Thomas, Ryan Owens.
Lowest gross: (57) Bryan Reed, Fred Holland, Owain Williams.
Ashburnham hosted the inaugural county boys v girls match which saw the boys run out winners by five points to two.
The girls' points were scored by Sara Rees Evans and Sophie Lovett. The boys claimed overall victory courtesy of wins by Luke Harries, Elis Lewis, Billy Truman, Jordan Davies and Jack Harries.
More than 30 girls from Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire took part in a junior golf festival at Ashburnham during the week.
Girls, some as young as seven, took part in a variety of formats, including a 36-shot and 54-shot competition.
Ashburnham boys also joined in the event and played a mixed greensome foursome competition with the girls.
The results were as follows:
15-hole mixed greensome foursomes: 1st Rhys Morgan & Emma Hughes (Carmarthen ) 85 gross; 2nd Owain Williams & Eva Bowers (Machynys) 91 gross; 3rd Morgan Hand & Emily Joel (Machynys) 95 gross; 4th Kris Jones & Megan Jones (Glynhir) 99 gross.
11-hole mixed greensome foursomes: 1st Kayne Protheroe & Ffion Roberts (Borth) 67 gross; 2nd Keenan Jones & Clare Gitting 72 gross; 3rd Ryan Owens & Shona Nelson (Ashburnham) 74 gross (back 9); 4th Joe Francis & Brittany Lewis (Glynhir) 74.

Corporate deal is just right for business at 'The Ash'

They really mean business at the Ashburnham Championship Links Golf Club in Pembrey.
The club is chipping in with a special offer to businesses with a new Corporate Membership deal.
“It’s something of a cliché to say that people do a great deal of business on the golf course,” said Ashburnham club manager Huw Morgan.
“But there’s probably a lot of truth in it and we want to do our bit at The Ashburnham to keep the wheels of commerce turning.
“We have just set up a new Corporate Membership category which we hope will appeal to small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Carmarthenshire and on the other side of the Loughor Bridge.
“It’s possible bigger businesses and corporations will also find our business deal attractive as we offer the use of the room here (complete with a big screen) free of charge for meetings for our Corporate members.
“There are other golf courses that offer Corporate deal, but we believe we have a superior package on offer as we have great clubhouse facilities and a championship links golf course which is playable all the year round.”
Corporate membership at The Ashburnham is £1,600 plus VAT and the membership allows for one fourball per day, Monday to Friday.

'Country Membership' is a great deal

They’re spreading the membership net at the Ashburnham Championship Links Golf Club in Pembrey.
A new ‘Country Membership’ deal has been launched for golfers living 40 miles or more away from the club.
“This should be an attractive offer for golfers living along the M4 corridor in Cardiff or Bridgend, particularly as many of them may be lucky enough to have holiday properties in West Wales or on Gower,” said Ashburnham club manager Huw Morgan.
“Country membership costs just £175 and the only qualification is that you have to be a member of another golf club.
“Journey times between here and Cardiff are excellent and the Country membership offer is ideal for people accustomed to visiting West Wales, whether for business or pleasure.”
The club has also launched a new Corporate membership package at The Ashburnham.
Corporate membership at The Ashburnham is £1,600 plus VAT and the membership allows for one fourball per day, Monday to Friday.

Top tournament for 'The Ash'

The prestigious links championship course at The Ashburnham Golf Club in Pembrey has just been awarded another key tournament.
The 2013 Men’s Welsh Amateur Championships has been awarded to The Ashburnham by the Welsh Golfing Union.
The Ashburnham stepped into the breach when another club couldn’t fulfil the requirements to stage the championship.
“We were asked if we could help by stepping into the gap and staging the championship and we were delighted to accept,” said Ashburnham club manager Huw Morgan.
“The Ashburnham has a huge reputation as a championship course and there are only a handful of courses of our standard in Wales who could possibly stage such a championship.
“We are absolutely delighted to host the 2013 Men’s Welsh Amateur as it now gives us four great years of championship events at The Ashburnham, proving that we are widely recognised as a quality tournament venue.
“Our calendar for the next few years reads -
“2012 Welsh Ladies’ Open Stroke Play Championships
“2013 Men’s Welsh Amateur Championships
“2014 Ladies’ British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championships
“2015 Men’s Welsh Stroke Play Championships
“That’s quite a portfolio of events for us at The Ashburnham and we are delighted to be staging them. We can promise a true championship test for each event and the warmest of Welsh welcomes.”
The Ashburnham is the course where the great Welshman and winning Ryder Cup Captain Dai Rees won the PGA title in 1959. It has long been regarded as one of the best links courses in Britain.
The Ashburnham takes its name from the 5th Earl of Ashburnham, who once owned the land and became the club’s inaugural President in 1894.
Two other Ryder Cup Captains have been successful in their playing careers at The Ashburnham in the shape of Bernard Gallacher, who won the Schweppes PGA Championship in 1969, and Sam Torrance, who won the Martini Tournament in 1976.
The Ashburnham has a proud history of hosting many of the major amateur tournaments, having first held a Welsh Amateur Championship in 1904.
Last year, The Ashburnham was the venue for the Men’s Home Internationals.
